Become an apprentice

Being an apprentice is a great way to start working in Southwark. We have tremendous success helping apprentices secure employment and we're committed to creating 2,000 new apprenticeships.

Our apprenticeships can give you an excellent chance for a bright future by offering you:

  • work-based skills
  • excellent work experience
  • a competitive salary (London Living Wage) whilst you learn
  • nationally recognised qualifications
  • on and off the job training
  • advice and guidance to help develop your career after the apprenticeship

You'll receive a lot of support, coaching and mentoring throughout your apprenticeship.

You can see what previous apprentices think of working in Southwark by reading and watching their stories.

Apprenticeship opportunities with Southwark businesses

If we can't offer what you're looking for, there are a variety of other apprenticeships available with local businesses. The Southwark Apprenticeship Standard sets the standard for quality local apprentices. It's based on our over ten years experience running the apprenticeship scheme and sets four key areas that we know are at the heart of any successful apprenticeship:

  • secure employment (contract of at least 12 months)
  • fair pay (with payment of the London Living Wage as the gold standard)
  • quality training provision
  • mentoring and support

Standard employers come in most sectors and sizes, offering something for everywhere wanting to earn while they learn. We're signing up new employers all the time, and post new vacancies most months, so keep checking this page to find out about the latest opportunities (pdf, 235kb).
