Tackling antisocial behaviour
Read the antisocial behaviour strategy 2011 - 2015
The council, the police and their partners have a range of tools and powers which equips them to deal with antisocial behaviour. The measures in place include:
- Fixed penalty notices and on the spot fines
- Issuing antisocial behaviour orders (ASBOs) and acceptable behaviour contract (ABC)
- Seizing alchohol to tackle street drinking
- Closing down crack houses
- Evicting nuisance tenants
- Seizing of equipment and vehicles
- Injunctions
Most cases are sorted out before any legal action is needed. However, if the antisocial behaviour is continuing and is serious, your area housing office can refer your case to the Southwark antisocial behaviour unit (SASBU).
Southwark Council tenants and leaseholders will initially be dealt with by the area housing offices.
In more serious cases where the use of legal action is required or where for example a wider community area is experiencing antisocial behaviour, the case will be dealt with by Southwark antisocial behaviour unit (SASBU).
In both of these cases, the victim(s) will receive support from a dedicated officer.
