Free energy advice visits for residents in the Low Carbon Zone

Energy experts will soon be visiting homes in the Low Carbon Zone to offer free advice on how to save energy and money.

During the visit, the energy expert will fit a range of energy and water saving measures such as:

• Low energy light bulbs
• Radiator panels
• Draught-proofing
• 'Save-a-flush' toilet devices

The energy expert will also assess whether your home is suitable for loft or cavity wall insulation. Depending on your individual circumstances, loft and cavity wall insulation may be installed free of charge or at a subsidised cost.

Grants for community and voluntary organisations

Are you a community group or voluntary organisation that could:

• Organise an activity or event, or purchase equipment aimed at reducing emissions in the Zone?
• Deliver a project aimed at reducing emissions in the Zone?
• Promote environmentally friendly behaviour?

If so then you can apply for a grant of up to £2000. Contact sustainable.services@southwark.gov.uk for more information or download the application form on the right hand side of the page.

What are Low Carbon Zones?

Funded by the Mayor of London, there are ten Low Carbon Zones in London.

• Low Carbon Zones present opportunities to bring together:
• Local authorities
• Private sector partners
• Community organisations
• Local residents

to reduce the CO2 emissions from local areas, and to develop a range of models for the delivery of carbon saving measures across and beyond London.

Where is the Peckham Low Carbon Zone?

The Peckham Low Carbon Zone is close to Peckham Library and Peckham High Street.

It includes Bells Gardens Estate, Oliver Goldsmith Estate and some of the surrounding roads such as Marmont Road, Furley Road and Goldsmiths Road.

Achievements to date

To date we have:

• Helped 14 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the low carbon zone to save money and energy through our green business support service.
• Funded local community groups, including the London Wildlife Trust and Transition Town Peckham, to deliver behaviour change projects in the low carbon zone.
• Delivered a range of energy efficiency improvements at the school in the zone
