Community Groups
Community groups
Are you a community group or group of residents interested in doing your bit to save energy or reduce the carbon footprint of your community?
We can provide the following resources to support your meetings and events
- leaflets with advice on simple energy saving tips, grants that are available and home energy questionnaires that can be completed to receive a free energy advice report from the Energy Saving Trust
- DVDs with energy saving advice for older people and in different languages
- energy display meters available to loan from Peckham and Blue Anchor libraries
- 3D energy saving house
- eco-friendly freebies.
If your event has a budget for activities, we would be happy to draw together a budget to run an activity at the event. Activities that we could run include recycled paper making, junk mail jewellery, energy bicycle activity and Eco-doctor surgeries. Contact sustainable services sustainable.services@southwark.gov.uk.
Eco Teams
Global Action Plan can support you to form an Eco Team with your friends and neighbours. Together you will work through a series of action focused meetings looking at energy, waste, shopping, water and travel. Free training events help you to get started. Visit the Eco Teams website to find out more.
Green communities
The Energy Saving Trust run our local energy advice centre. They have a wealth of information on their website about cost-effective ways to save energy and save money or you can contact them on 0800 512 012.
Their Green communities network is a great way to keep up to date with news on community-based energy initiatives. Membership of the Green communities network is free and by joining up to the network you'll stay informed about funding and training opportunities as well as other news.
Funding
If you have an idea to reduce local carbon emissions there could be funding available to help support your project. Visit our grants and funding page to find out more.
Peckham Low Carbon Zone
We are offering one off grants of up to £2000 to community groups for projects that will reduce the carbon footprint of the Peckham Low Carbon Zone.
