There are a number of documents that are used to set out our strategy for development and to make decisions on planning applications (collectively known as the Local Plan). These are:
The Development Plan

Southwark Core Strategy 2011
Sets out the strategy for development and strategic policies. -
Southwark Plan (saved policies)
Contains more detailed and technical policies. -
London Plan 2011
Sets out London-wide policies
Area Action Plans
Can set policy and provide more detail than the Development Plan with masterplans for areas where there will be significant regeneration or development. (Aylesbury AAP 2010)
Development Plan Documents
Can set policy and provide more detailed policies than the Development Plan for subjects such as transport, housing, open spaces and shops. (none adopted at present)
Supplementary Planning Documents
Cannot set policy however they provide detailed technical guidance on areas and subjects with more detail than the other documents. (Sustainable Design & Consutruction)
All new documents in the local plan will be consistent with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). Existing documents will be reviewed and updated to be consistent wiht the NPPF.
