Planning policy

There are a number of documents that are used to set out our strategy for development and to make decisions on planning applications (collectively known as the Local Development Framework). These are:

The Development Plan

  • Southwark Core Strategy 2011

Sets out the strategy for development and strategic policies.
  • Southwark Plan (saved policies)

Contains more detailed and technical policies.
  • London Plan 2011

    Sets out London-wide policies

Area Action Plans

Can set policy and provide more detail than the Development Plan with masterplans for areas where there will be significant regeneration or development. (Aylesbury AAP 2010)

Development Plan Documents

Can set policy and provide more detailed policies than the Development Plan for subjects such as transport, housing, open spaces and shops. (none adopted at present)

Supplementary Planning Documents

Cannot set policy however they provide detailed technical guidance on areas and subjects with more detail than the other documents. (Sustainable Design & Consutruction)

The local development framework has been prepared in accordance with Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 12 Local Spatial Planning.
