Safeguarding adults board

The safeguarding adults partnership team (SAPT) works with social work and NHS colleagues and supports investigations into the abuse of vulnerable adults in Southwark.

• The SAPT monitors and records vulnerable adult abuse data, in compliance with Department of Health and Action on Elder Abuse guidance.
• The SAPT uses vulnerable adult abuse data to develop reports and other statistics. These help us to target the most common types and causes of abuse.
• The SAPT aims to create awareness amongst the public about adult abuse and inform people where to go for help.
• The SAPT supports the work of the safeguarding adults partnership board (SAPB).

Safeguarding adults partnership board (SAPB)

National guidance requires each local authority to establish a safeguarding adults partnership. The Southwark SAPB is a formal organisation. Members are from across health and social care, police, users and carer representatives.

The SAPB is supported by the SAP Team (SAPT).

Aims

• To ensure that vulnerable adults in Southwark can live free from abuse.
• To determine the safeguarding adults strategy, implement effective inter-team working and ongoing publicity.

Membership

The SAPB is made up of representatives from the following groups

• Independent chair
• Stakeholder representatives
• Commissioning
• Statutory sector senior managers
• Voluntary sector senior managers
• Metropolitan Police
• NHS representatives

The group meets quarterly and minutes and agendas are available by contacting the Safeguarding adults team.
