Protecting adults at risk of abuse
To prevent abuse and stop it when it happens, Southwark Council works with the NHS, police, neighbouring boroughs and a range of private and voluntary agencies.
Adults at risk of abuse include people with a wide range of disabilities and circumstances:

Preventing abuse in Southwark
Staff supporting adults at risk of abuse follow standards set out in the London multi-agency policy and procedures report.
Staff also have ongoing professional training to support them in this demanding area.
Community schemes
Southwark's Community Safety and Enforcement Team run several schemes to support local residents. They can provide advice and support to victims of abuse. For more information contact them on, 020 7525 5777
The community warden scheme provides extra reassurance within the community. Uniformed staff are based across Southwark and aim to build closer communities by making local people feel safer in their local area. 0845 600 1287
Mental Capacity Act 2005
The Mental Capacity Act 2005 protects adults at risk of abuse who are unable to make all or some decisions for themselves.

Who to contact when abuse occurs
If you think someone is being abused or someone is abusing you, you can:
- Talk to someone you trust
- Contact the Safeguarding Adults team by calling them on 0845 600 1287
- Contact the out of hours team: 020 7525 5000 (Weekdays: 5pm to 9am. Weekends and bank holidays: 24 hours)
If you are reporting abuse, it is helpful if you can provide your name to enable further contact. You can also report suspected abuse and not disclose your identity should you wish.
