Our new Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) is being operated by Veolia Environmental Services on our behalf, as part of a 25 year PFI contract.
Benefits of the facility
The new facility will play a central role in helping to reduce the impact that Southwark's waste has on the environment. It is expected to facilitate a significant improvement in the amount of waste the borough recycles, as well as diverting most of the waste that would previously have gone to landfill.
The facility sets the standard for waste management in London . It provides a long-term solution to our waste management needs and provides us with environmental and financial benefits of processing waste and recycling as close to source as possible. The project has remediated the former gas works site, off Old Kent Road , and has created jobs to help build and run the facility.

Construction
During the construction of the facility, our webcams took a picture every 15 minutes within working hours. See a film of these images which shows how the site developed over the course of 18 months.
