Both schemes are operated and enforced under powers that have been enacted by Parliament, primarily the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and the Traffic Management Act 2004.
Please note that on-street permits cannot be used on estates and estate permits are not valid on-street.
Within the London Borough of Southwark we are acutely aware that the demand for parking outstrips the available on-street parking spaces in many areas.
To try and improve this situation agreements are made between the Council and property developers that future occupants of:
may not be allowed to purchase parking permits.
These agreements are made with the Council, usually under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, and are public documents.
It is the developers responsibility to advise new occupiers of the council's policy. You can check for details of permit restrictions via the council's planning register.
