Use of permits
There are many different types of permit available that enable residents and businesses to park within the controlled parking zones and housing estate car parks. Find out more about applying for a parking permit.
Make sure you use your permit properly by following these simple rules.
Displaying your permit
Make sure your permit is clearly displayed on your windscreen or on the window that faces the kerb. If your permit cannot be seen by a civil enforcement officer your vehicle may be given a penalty charge notice, parking ticket, or be clamped or towed away. The hours when parking regulations apply will be shown on the parking sign closest to the parking space.
Keeping your permit up to date
It is the responsibility of the permit holder to apply for their new permit at least two weeks before the old one expires. One proof of residency is required for each permit renewal as long as the renewal notice is produced. If you don't have a renewal notice please check the conditions of renewal in the parking permits section.
Transferring permits
Permits can not be transferred from one vehicle to another. Each permit is issued for one vehicle only and the registration number of that vehicle appears on the permit.
Shared use bays
Some roads within the zones have "shared use bays". Visitors can park in these bays if they buy a ticket from the pay and display machines. Visitors can park for either two or four hours depending on the rules for that location. Rules will be displayed on the parking signs or on the pay and display machines.
Discounts
Motorbikes and alternative fuel vehicles may qualify for a 75 per cent discount on permits.
