About Dickens Square
Dickens Square is a small local park situated off Falmouth Road, SE1. It is located close the Rockingham and Lawson estates, and Trinity Newington Estate, much of which has been made a conservation area.
Dickens Square park is a site of local importance for nature conservation: some 11 species of bird have been spotted, including the breeding blackcap and green woodpecker.
Volunteers from local Tenants and Residents Associations have received funding from the Council's Cleaner, Greener, Safer initiative and have mobilised groups of volunteers over the years to upgrade Butterfly Walk and generally improve the park. They have enhanced the birds' habitats by cutting back shrub and bramble, planting native wild flowers and encouraging native hedgerow.
