    Summer activities for children - Inspired by Roald Dahl

    • Puppets and Crafts Fun Make puppets of the Fantastic Mr Fox and the Enormous Crocodile. Children can also create masks of other popular characters. Thursday 21 July, 2pm to 3pm
    • Mr Twit’s Decorative Beard What can we find in Mr Twit’s beard? Make the beard, decorate it and dress up as Mr Twit. Borrow and read The Twits for the Summer Reading Challenge. Thursday 28 July, 2pm to 3pm
    • We Love Matilda: Trunchbull Training We imagine what it would be like to be taught by Miss Trunchbull the scary headmistress. Come in Miss Trunchbull costume if you dare. You can also have a go at making Miss Honey’s magic finger. Thursday 11 August, 2pm to 3pm
    • The Big Friendly Readathon Roald Dahl books are great fun to read aloud so we’re going to read books together in a readathon. Everyone will read a part of the book and pass it along to the next person. Children of all ages can join in and parents are also welcome. Let’s see how big our readathon can be. Thursday 18 August, 2pm to 3pm
    • James and the Giant Peach Come and celebrate Roald Dahl’s first classic children’s novel, James and the Giant Peach, written in 1961. Imagine what it would be like to enter a giant magical peach and the experience you could have inside? Make a giant peach and centipede mobiles. Thursday 25 August, 2pm to 3pm
    • Memory Mapping workshop with Flora Parrot Learn new skills, get creative and make a colourful collage map of your area. Children get to do something different. Flora has worked for the Royal Geographical Collection as Artist in Residence. Thursday 25 August, 2pm to 5pm Ages five to ten (Note this activity takes place in Rooms 5 and 6 on the 2nd floor at Canada Water Library)
    • Creepy Crafts Create your own newts and lizards and creepy crawlies. Inspired by the newt prank in Roald Dahl’s Book Matilda. Thursday 1 September, 2pm to 3pm
    • Bookbusters Listen to stories read aloud and take part in activities to match. These activities are for children aged four and over. Saturday 23 July, 2pm to 3pm Saturday 30 July, 2pm to 3pm Saturday 6 August, 2pm to 3pm Saturday 13 August, 2pm to 3pm Saturday 20 August, 2pm to 3pm Saturday 27 August, 2pm to 3pm and Saturday 3 September 2pm to 3pm.
    • Picture This A fun club for children who love to draw. These activities are for children aged eight and over. Tuesday 26 July, 4pm to 5.30pm Tuesday 9 August, 4pm to 5.30pm Tuesday 23 August and 4pm to 5.30pm.

    • Bookstart session for under sixes, Mondays 10am to 11.30am, during term time only 
    • Board games club, Monday 4.30pm to 5.30pm, during term time only. For age 6 and over
    • Baby Rhyme Time, every Tuesday, 2pm to 2.30pm
    • Picture This is a fun club for children who love to draw, alternate Tuesdays, 4pm to 5.30pm, for age 8 and over
    • Colour Me Happy, a fun relaxing way for the family to end the week with colouring sheets. Children over 4 and parents and carers. Fridays 3.30pm to 4.30pm, during term time only 
    • Baby and Toddler session for under fives, every Thursday 11am to 11.45am
    • Chatterbooks, First Thursday of every month, 4pm to 5pm. For age 8 to 12
    • Bookbusters, Listen to stories read aloud and take part in activities to match. Every Saturday, 2pm to 3pm. For age 4 and over

    • Special one-off author talks and events: please email Nuala Graham to join the mailing list
    • Feel better with a book, every Monday 10am to 12pm
    • Creative writing group, alternate Mondays, 1pm to 3pm
    • "English +" for speakers of others languages to improve their English language skills. Every Thursday, 12pm to 1pm (Please note there will be no session in September 2016)
