Garages

We have secure lock up garages for rent across the borough which offer value for money, flexibility and freedom. They may be used for storing motor vehicles or for other storage purposes, with the exception of any flammable or combustible items.

Once you have submitted your application form, we will usually contact you within 14 days if a suitable garage is available. Please be aware that there is a substantial waiting list for some garage sites.

When you are offered a garage you will be required to provide two forms of original identification, such as a passport or driving licence, as well as proof of address.

In addition, you will be given a copy of the licence agreement to read and sign. This document outlines the rights and responsibilities which apply when renting a garage. A sample agreement can be found here.

Rent

The standard rent for a secure Southwark Council tenant, resident leaseholder or a resident freeholder who pays service charges is £18.62 a week.

Anyone who does not fall within these categories will be charged a private sector rent of £27.50 per week.

Are there discounts for older people or disabled applicants?

Yes, you are entitled to a concessionary rate of £5 off the full rent provided you are a Southwark council tenant, a resident leaseholder or a resident freeholder who pays service charges, and fit one of the following criteria:

• You are over 70
• You are registered disabled and in receipt of a mobility allowance for transport

When you are offered a garage you will be required to provide documentation to prove that you fulfil the relevant criteria.
