London Mini Marathon
Southwark runners shine
The Virgin Mini London Marathon took place on Sunday 22 April 2012. Team Southwark was made up of 35 athletes, aged between 11 and 17 who proudly represented their borough.
The Southwark Mini Marathon trials took place back in February at Peckham Rye Park, where despite freezing conditions over 200 local runners attended in a bid to be selected for the 2012 team.
Team Southwark showcased their running talents on the day and paved the way for some fantastic results.
The U13 boys team took the spotlight by winning the U13 boys category, beating all 32 London boroughs. Top performances from Laurie Pope (5th), Sam Wattles (7th), Noah Armitage-Hookes (10th) and Tom Singhgolden (12th) contributed to this brilliant achievement. Impressive performances were also recorded in other age categories, especially in the U15 boys where Alex Yee finished in 14th place.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all 35 athletes who took part. The overall results can be found on the Virgin Money Giving Mini London Marathon website.
As this year is a special year, all 35 runners who competed on the day have also secured a ticket to the London Olympics Athletics competition in August!
The trials for the 2013 Mini Marathon will take place in January/February 2013.
