Design for Burgess Park
BMX track
There are currently plans to create London's first national standard BMX track to host races for some of the world's best riders in Burgess Park.
Planning application
A planning application was submitted to the council's planning department in February 2012. The council's planning committee approved the BMX track application on 27 March 2012. Work is due to commence shortly on site. We hope to open the new BMX track by beginning of 2013.
Funding
Subject to planning permission, the track will receive funding from the London Marathon Charitable Trust, British Cycling, Playsport Facility Fund and Southwark Council.
Proposed features
It has been designed to cater for riders of varying experience, from novice to expert and will be free for the community to use.
It is hoped the track will host international BMX races, as well as being the first in the capital to host winter and summer national events.
A 400 metre track will feature a starting hill, banked hairpin turns, a variety of jumps, some as high as 2.5m and will be floodlit so it can be used all year round.
