Burgess Park transformation

Sign at entrance of Burgess Park

Burgess Park's multimillion pound transformation is underway. Once completed, Burgess Park will be transformed into a first class park for all Southwark residents to enjoy.

From June 2011, contractors started working on the project. Due to the works access to the park has been reduced to allow for works to take place.

We've decided to close areas in the park to make sure work is safe and secure, it presents no danger to the public and all the works are completed on time.  However many areas of the park remain open, please refer to our map of the park.

New look for Burgess Park

Following detailed consultation with residents and stakeholders the new designs for the park was given planning permission in February 2011. This initial transformation phase will see the park completed by summer 2012. The park will benefit from:

  • 92,000 new plants, including 164 new trees
  • Two new wetland habitats for the redesigned lake
  • A new over fives playground; and much more.
