This service delivers supervised sport and play opportunities to children and young people, targeting areas of the borough where these opportunities are limited. It also supports appropriate one-off community events.
The unit has its own equipment and can set up in a variety of venues including parks and open spaces, kick-about areas, tenants' halls, community centres, school premises, play spaces and sports grounds.
The children are encouraged to participate in 'free play', that is, play that is freely chosen and child-led. This allows them to develop their own ideas around the concept of play, and where practical choose their own activities.
The project works in partnership with and is funded by the Big Lottery for Play programme.
