The Castle leisure centre
Southwark Council is excited to announce the Castle Centre will open its doors at St. Gabriel Walk SE1 6FG to the public at 7am on Saturday 30 April 2016, with the official family fun open weekend set for 21 and 22 May.
The new £20m centre, funded by the council’s local regeneration programme, will feature a 25 metre six-lane swimming pool, learner pool with moveable floor, sauna and steam rooms, a sports hall, fully equipped gym and dedicated spinning studio, two exercise studios plus a crèche and café. The state of the art centre also has full disabled access and specialist equipment throughout.
Cllr Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for public health, parks and leisure said, “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been working so hard to get the Castle Centre open, despite its building stage delays. I have seen a fantastic turn-around over the last few weeks as we get the centre ready for the public and I’m looking forward to finally getting the doors open on 30 April, so everyone can try out the facilities for themselves.”
Free swim and gym
The pilot offer which is available for residents aged 18 and under and over 60 will also be available at The Castle Centre. In addition to this a pilot scheme for disabled Southwark residents will be available seven days a week. Details on this offer will follow shortly.
