The Castle leisure centre

Castle Entrance

Southwark Council is excited to announce the Castle Centre has opened its doors at St. Gabriel Walk SE1 6FG. An official family fun open weekend will follow on 21 and 22 May.

The new £20m centre, funded by the council’s local regeneration programme, features a 25 metre six-lane swimming pool, learner pool with moveable floor, sauna and steam rooms, a sports hall, fully equipped gym and dedicated spinning studio, two exercise studios plus a crèche and café. The state of the art centre also has full disabled access and specialist equipment throughout.

Cllr Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for public health, parks and leisure said, “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been working so hard to get the Castle Centre open, despite its building stage delays.”

Free swim and gym

The pilot offer which is available for residents aged 18 and under and over 60 will also be available at The Castle Centre. In addition to this a pilot scheme for disabled Southwark residents will be available seven days a week. Details on this offer will follow shortly.

The Castle Centre is located at Elephant and Castle and is situated between St Mary's Churchyard and Brook Drive. The full address is:

Southwark Council Leisure Centres

We have five other leisure centres in the borough where you can enjoy a wide variety of different sports and activities ranging from rowing, kayaking and sailing at Surrey Docks Watersports Centre, to swimming in one of our pools at Camberwell, Dulwich, Peckham and Seven Islands.

If you prefer the buzz of a friendly gym then you'll find one in all five of our centres along with open air gym equipment at Geraldine Mary Harmsworth, just near to the Imperial War Museum, where you can also book to play tennis, netball, football and basketball.

Please take a look at the contact details for all of our leisure centres, which includes direct web site links where you can view price lists, activity time tables and general details for each centre.
