Dulwich leisure centre

Dulwich Leisure Centre has served the local community since 25 June 1892. In the second phase of Southwark Council's refurbishment programme, £6.1 million has been allocated to Dulwich Leisure Centre to upgrade the building and facilities completely whilst preserving and enhancing the historical features.

The council is pleased to announce that refurbishment works commenced on 5 May 2009. In phase 1 (May 2009 to summer 2010) the swimming pool has been taken out of service. The gym will remain in use throughout the whole of the refurbishment programme, with reduced facilities in the transition entering phase 2 (late summer 2010 to January 2011) when the pool re-opens.  

Dulwich memories 

Since 25 June 1892 the baths at Dulwich have served the community. This is your opportunity to share your experiences and become part of it's history.

• Celebrations held at the baths - wedding parties
• War time use of the baths or historical events
• Swimming galas and presentations
• Are you the longest user of the baths or perhaps been its most regular user?

We intend to use a selection of stories, photos and archive memorabilia from this time in our pool re-opening announcements in September and October.

Timely communications are essential when informing residents and users of Dulwich Leisure Centre as to the latest situation of the refurbishment programme. We have responded to new FAQs which were published in July 2010 and will bring you up to date with the programme.

Consultation report

During August and September 2007 over 32,500 people were asked for their opinion about the future of the centre and services they would like to see delivered from it. The consultation for Dulwich Leisure centre involved the residents of five local wards and users of the centre.

The consultation report will provide you with the results of the consultation and also answers to questions that were frequently asked by respondents.
