How we are preparing for the census

How we are preparing for the census

In Southwark we are rolling out a plan to engage our residents in the census and provide the office for national statistics (ONS) with as much support as possible.

Our staff and voluntary organisations are currently working on the below:

  • We are creating an accurate address list of all residential properties in Southwark to make sure that each resident receives a census form in 2011.

  • We are engaging with more than 200 voluntary groups and organisations in Southwark to promote census jobs and provide information on the 2011 census to people who are less likely to respond.

  • We are planning a local communications campaign to ensure our residents are aware of the census and its importance and support ONS' national communications campaign.

  • We are creating detailed profiles of Southwark's residential areas to help ONS staff who will be reminding and helping residents to complete their forms, understand our population needs and the geography of our areas.

  • We are promoting census jobs to all of our residents and staff.
