Resident parking permits

Permanent residents living within a controlled parking zone who own, keep or have sole use of a vehicle can buy a resident parking permit. You can work out which controlled parking zone you live in by viewing our controlled parking zone maps.

If you own a property within a controlled parking zone but do not live there, you are not entitled to a resident's permit.

Apply for your resident permit online

The quickest and easiest way to apply and pay for permits is to create a permit account using our online application form and secure payment service:

Online applications will normally be posted to you within two working days, unless we need to contact you for more information.

Alternatively, you can apply for your permit over the phone by calling Southwark parking services on:

0800 138 9081 (free from UK landlines) or 0344 800 2736 (local rate) Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm (not bank holidays).

Please note, online applications will be available shortly for residents of Tabard Garden Estate addresses wishing to apply for a permit for the new parking scheme. In the meantime, applications may be made by telephone.

Renew your resident permit online

When your permit is about to expire, we will send a renewal notice by email or through the post. This is sent about four weeks before it expires you need to log into your account to renew your permit. If you have forgotten your user name or password you can recover it.

Once payment is received your permit will normally be posted to you within two working days. The renewal will be logged in the traffic wardens hand held computers so while wait for your renewed permit to arrive no parking tickets will be issued.

Alternatively, you can renew your permit over the phone by calling Southwark parking services on:

0800 138 9081 (free from UK landlines) or 0344 800 2736 (local rate) Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm (not bank holidays)

Apply for your resident permit by post

You can still apply for a resident permit by post. Just download and complete the resident parking permit application form and send it together with either a cheque or postal order for the relevant amount made payable to Southwark parking services, at:

Admail 4197

Your permit will normally be posted within seven days from clearance of payment, unless we need to contact you for more information.

Courtesy cars

From time to time residents with an existing parking permit may need to park a courtesy or hire car whilst their own car is off road being serviced or repaired.  If you intend to use a courtesy vehicle for just a few days, it can be cost effective to use daily resident visitor permits for that period.  However if the vehicle is to be used for a longer period you can purchase a one month permit.

Permit refund

If you have sold your vehicle or moved out of the Controlled Parking Zone and no longer require parking permit, you can return the permit and request for a refund of the remaining duration left on the permit. Southwark Council will refund a complete calendar month only upon receipt of the permit.  An admin fee of £14.50 applies for refunding permit.

Once you have your permit

Permits should be displayed on the windscreen of your vehicle. The zone identifier will be printed on the permit e.g. GR = Grange controlled parking zone.
