Poured Lines Southwark Street

Artistic improvements to Southwark Street

A major new work by Turner Prize nominated artist Ian Davenport has transformed a key public space in Bankside, making it a new London landmark.

Ian Davenport, a Peckham based artist, has created one of his signature poured lines designs for the commission. It is a rare example of painting as public art. At 48 metres long and three metres high, it is also one of the largest pieces of public art in London.

Ian's work runs along one of the walls supporting a Victorian railway bridge, connected to Blackfriars Station. The installation will be viewed by over 1.2 million people that pass along Southwark Street under the bridge every year.

This is a joint initiative between Southwark Council and Land Securities with funding from the Arts Council.
