London Bridge and Bankside development team

The development team approach

In order to coordinate development activity in the London Bridge, Bankside area, a development team has been set up which will work closely with partners Better Bankside and Team London Bridge to both facilitate the development process and protect the amenity of the local community.

The process of obtaining consent to develop land can be complex, involving lengthy discussions with various sections of the council. The development team approach will ensure that all relevant departments are brought into the process at an early stage and that dialogue is established with the developer, builder or architect and community in order to avoid unnecessary delays in the determination process.

The development team will aim to provide a one stop shop service, with officers being available to meet and discuss the proposals and becoming a part of the design team along with the developer, builder, and architect. The aim will be to create an agreed and speedy means of liaising between the various people involved in the design and construction of the project.

What are we doing to help?

The development team includes officers from planning development control, building control, public protection and enforcement services, public realm network management, and area management services. We are working with developers and the community to

  • Coordinate all construction, public realm and utility projects and produce an updated projects map and key
  • Create a monthly "d-brief" bulletin and quarterly newsletter highlighting all construction activity. Please subscribe to receive our d-brief
  • Provide an overall timeline for all projects under construction, to be uploaded to this webpage
  • Coordinate all internal permissions to provide a one stop shop service for developers
  • To work with partners to provide regular project updates to the community using as many forms of communication as possible, including email bulletins, newsletters, presentations and events
  • Work with the planning policy team to develop a new supplementary planning document for the London Bridge, Borough and Bankside area
