More London Section 106 Agreement

The More London regeneration project, Tooley Street

More London is a large mixed use development. It transformed the derelict and blighted riverside in North Bermondsey into 185,000sqm of office and retail space and created in excess of 20,000 jobs.

In 1999 an innovative section 106 agreement was signed as part of planning permission for the More London masterplan. The agreement enabled the delivery of an estimated £11m worth of improvements around the site. These improvement projects have led to a steep change in the success, appearance, and confidence in the Riverside Ward area.

To maximise the chance of local residents accessing new jobs created by the development, the section 106 agreement included the placement of workplace coordinators (WPC's). Their role is to assist local people get construction jobs and secure end use jobs created by the development. The Building London Creating Futures (BLCF) programme, which has run since 1999 has created 388 local jobs, assisted 815 people from BME communities, and delivered 935 training qualifications.

The section 106 agreement has also funded a number of mentoring, training, and outreach schemes. This helps link local communities living around the development with the employees in the new developments.
