Borough and Bankside Streetscape Improvement Programme
The Borough and Bankside Streetscape Improvement programme was approved by planning committee on November 27 2007.
The programme has been developed to deliver 21 new public realm, open space, and transport projects across the Borough and Bankside community council area.
To date seven projects have been completed including a series of landscape improvements to Vaughan House and the repaving of Union Street between Blackfriars and Great Suffolk St. Eight projects are on site or programmed to go on site this summer such as streetscape improvements to Boundary Row and public realm improvements at the junction of Rockingham St and Meadow Row. The remaining six are progressing through consultation and design phases.
The programme is primarily funded through section 106 funds which have been paid to the council by developers in recent years. Due to the nature of section 106 agreements, the programme is targeted at providing projects that are in the vicinity of a series of new developments.
Many of the projects were identified through previous consultation exercises with the community.
