Timeline of regeneration
March 2002: Previous regeneration plans collapsed as we failed to reach an agreement with our preferred development partner, Southwark Land Regeneration.
May 2002: Our executive committee renews its commitment to the regeneration of Elephant and Castle.
January 2003: We published the emerging framework principles for the future regeneration of Elephant and Castle.
June 2003: Draft development framework was published for public consultation. February 2004 development framework was adopted as supplementary planning guidance by our executive committee after winning the support of 80% of the local community.
June 2004: Make Architects was appointed to perfect the framework, ready for release to the commercial sector.
January 2005: Start of official European procurement process for the main commercial development partner.
August 2005: Two housing association consortia selected to build replacement housing for Heygate residents.
Autumn 2006: First Heygate residents moved into Wansey Street.
November 2006: Elephant and Castle Ecopod was installed.
January 2007: A major exhibition showcased our work so far, before we selected a preferred commercial development partner. Research showed 94% of local people were in favour of the our regeneration plans.
July 2007: Selection of commercial development partner - Lend Lease, Europe.
July 2007: St Mary's Churchyard major landscaping improvements got underway.
September 2007: Heygate action plan implemented and rehousing process began.
Spring 2008: St Mary's Churchyard Park refurbishment were completed.
Summer/Autumn 2008: Plans approved for the removal of Southern roundabout, working with Transport for London.
Autumn/Winter 2008/2009: Applications for planning permissions was submitted for remaining 15 Heygate replacement housing sites.
July 2010 - Regeneration agreement with Lend Lease was signed off.
October 2010 - Commencement of demolition of Rodney Road.
Timeline for upcoming events
Spring 2011: Demolition of Rodney Road completed.
Spring 2012: Planning application submitted for Heygate Master plan area and also a detailed planning application for the Rodney Road Phase.
Winter 2012: Completion of the phase two demolition.
2015: Completion of demolition of the Heygate Estate.
