Olympic Torch Relay Route

Southwark's been unveiled as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Route.

The Olympic Torch Relay which will start at Land's End on Saturday 19 May 2012. The Flame will then visit 1018 communities across the UK before it starts its London leg on Saturday 21 July. It will pass through Southwark on 26 July, arriving at the Olympic Stadium on Friday 27 July as part of the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. 

Sebastian Coe, Chair of LOCOG said: "We are thrilled to confirm that Southwark will act as a host location for the Olympic Flame on 26 July, extending an invitation to people across the borough to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay during its journey around the UK. This is the UK 's moment to shine and I want to encourage people across Southwark to start planning how they can be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity and show their support for the inspirational Torchbearers chosen to carry the Olympic Flame as we count down to the start of the Olympic Games."

Details on the exact route the Olympic Torch will take in Southwark will be revealed nearer the time.  

Torchbearers

A total of 8,000 inspirational people across the UK will carry the Olympic Flame during the Torch Relay. As it makes its way across the UK on a 70-day journey it will bring the excitement of the Games to everyone. Details on Southwark's torchbearers will be announced shortly.
