Young people and London 2012
One of the primary objectives of Southwark Council’s ‘Get Set Southwark’ project is to help the borough’s young people to benefit and get the most from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games.
There are many opportunities for young people to get involved and engage in some exciting activities during the summer of 2012 and beyond. You don’t have to be at the Olympic park to be part of London 2012.
Culture and events
With over 200 separate events happening in Southwark during 2012, there is no reason to stay indoors whatever the weather. Here is a just a selection of what’s on offer for young people.

Volunteering
Southwark Council’s Y-Volunteer service is working in partnership with Volunteer Centre Southwark to bring volunteering opportunities to the young people of Southwark.
The target of our youth volunteering scheme was to provide 120 young people from Southwark with a volunteering placement, enabling those volunteers to gain AQA accreditation and enhance their CVs.
To date, 130 young people have signed up to the scheme with over 80 having been already placed in volunteering position.
Watch this space for case studies of some of our volunteers who have benefited from the Get Set Southwark Youth Volunteering scheme.
