International Women's Day

International Women's Day is an occasion that celebrates the significant role that women have played, and continue to play, in shaping history. 

It is an opportunity to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of women's rights. International Women's Day is an occasion marked by the United Nations and women's groups around the world. 

The first International Women's Day was held on 19 March 1911 in Germany, Austria, Denmark and other European countries.

Today it is an opportunity for women in every country, often divided by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, to come together and celebrate this important date that represents equality, justice, peace and development.
