Southwark schools for the future

The Southwark Schools for the Future (SSF) programme includes the Sure Start capital programme (SSCP), the primary capital programme (PCP), and the SSF secondary programme.

From 2006 to 2014, Southwark Council will have overseen around £400m of capital expenditure on schools, nurseries and children's centres. By the time this programme ends we will have:

  • Developed 21 children's centres including four new builds along with 14 major capital improvement projects in Southwark schools to improve community access
  • Provided four new primary schools, expanding popular and oversubscribed schools
  • Built two secondary foundation schools through BSF 'quick win' programmes
  • Built five new academies including three within the SSF secondary programme.
  • Built, rebuilt or refurbished 12 schools through our £200m secondary programme. This programme has been nationally recognised by central government as best practice.

This is the largest school renewal programme in Southwark since Victorian times.
