Bankside
Bankside(C1) controlled parking zone review
The Council undertook a review of Bankside (C1) controlled parking zone (CPZ) in 2007/8. The review provided opportunity to look at known parking issues and also to consult with all residents, business and the community council on proposed changes.
C1 CPZ covers streets in the most northerly part of the borough, approximately bounded by the river, Lambeth boundary, The Cut, Union Street and Borough High Street .
In April 2008 a decision was taken to implement a number of changes. The changes have recently undergone statutory consultation, following approval of funding.
Current status
The council has considered all correspondence received during the public and statutory consultation and revised its plans. A final decision was taken by the Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Recycling in December 2011.
What happens next
On 8 May 2012 changes to C1 CPZ will become fully operational and revised parking enforcement will commence; these changes may affect you.
We will write to everyone within the C1 boundary in April 2012 to explain that the existing CPZ will be revised and become fully operational on 8 May 2012.
The key changes to zone C1 are summarised as:
-
Permit parking bays. Permit bays will operate until 11pm each evening; currently they finish at 8pm
-
Pay and display and single yellow lines. These parking controls will additionally operate on a Saturday between 9.30am and 12.30pm; currently Monday to Friday
-
Parking bay type and position. Adjustments will be made to create new parking and loading spaces wherever possible but also to prevent parking where it is currently dangerous (eg. in narrow streets and on junctions)
-
CPZ boundary. The zone boundary will be amended so that Short Street , Ufford Street and Burrows Mews become part of C1 CPZ; currently in the adjacent C2 CPZ
-
Improved signage of pay by phone visitor parking
-
Removal of old individual parking meters throughout the zone and de-cluttering of damaged, rusty or redundant parking signs and posts.

We have commenced work to complete these changes. Over the coming weeks you may notice changes to road markings and parking signs.
We aim to minimise disruption whilst work is carried out but it may be necessary to us to suspend parking on some occasions to allow safe working. Please look out for any yellow suspension signs and do not park in those locations during the dates specified.
We aim to have all works completed by 8 May 2012.
