Paterson Park area

Background

The council's parking programme, included a parking project and consultation of residents and businesses in uncontrolled (non CPZ) streets in the Paterson Park, Bermondsey area.

The consultation area concentrated on streets bounded by four existing CPZs: Bermondsey (G), Grange (GR), South Bermondsey (SB) and South Rotherhithe (N). Streets within this consultation area were last consulted in 2002/3 as part of a much wider study prior to the introduction of the Central London Congestion Charging Zone.

Current status

Based on the results of the consultation, it has been recommended to the Cabinet Member for Transport, Environment and Recycling that the following is carried out:

1. Not proceed to a second stage parking consultation due to a lack of support

2. Remove the existing controlled parking zone parking restrictions outside Stansfeld House in Lynton Road (GR) to relieve parking pressure in Balaclava Road

3.  Install waiting restrictions on all junctions within the area to ensure that sight lines are kept clear from parked cars and to minimise existing restrictions wherever possible.

4. Remove all unnecessary street furniture throughout the zone and refresh worn and faded road markings

Outcome and what happens next

A final decision will shortly be taken by the cabinet member for environment, transport and recycling.  Read the council's decision register which will include this report

The decision will then be subject to statutory consultation with key stakeholders as part of the traffic orders procedures.
