Controlled parking zone implementation

Public consultation on the possibility of a controlled parking zone (CPZ) took place between December 2010 and January 2011. This included a questionnaire to all properties and three public exhibitions.

This consultation followed feedback that finding a parking space had become more difficult in this area and that some residents favoured the introduction of parking controls to help prioritise space.

A decision was taken to implement SW CPZ , subject to statutory consultation, in September 2011 by the Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Recycling. This decision was taken following discussion with Camberwell and Walworth Community Councils.

Statutory consultation was carried out between 29 September and 20 October 2011, in line with our legal duties.

Current status

Letters of objection and support were received during statutory consultation. These were presented to the Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Recycling for determination.

The vast majority (78 percent) of objections were received from the group of streets to the east of Wells Way : particularly Bonsor Street , Coleman Road , Dowlas Street and Rainbow Street

In considering the objections, the council has amended its plans and no CPZ will be introduced to those consulted roads that are east of Wells Way.

A decision was made to extend East Camberwell (EC) CPZ to the following streets:

  • Cottage Green
  • Parkhouse Street
  • Southampton Way (between Havil Street and New Church Road )
  • Wells Way (between Southampton Way and St George's Way )

The operational hours will be Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6.30pm.

The objection report and final decision was made by the Cabinet Member in February 2012.

What happens next

We will write to everyone within the zone extension area to explain that the CPZ will become operational on 16 April 2012 and how to apply for permits.

We are also writing to those who objected during the statutory consultation to advise of the decision.

All parking permits will be available online from 19 March 2012. Please be aware that you will not be able to order a permit before this date.

Once purchased, the permit will be posted to you within two working days, unless we need to contact you for more information.

We have commenced implementation of the CPZ.  Over the coming weeks you may notice changes to road markings and parking sign.

We aim to minimise disruption whilst work is carried out but it may be necessary to us to suspend parking on some occasions to allow safe working. Please look out for any yellow suspension signs and do not park in those locations during the dates specified.

We aim to have this work completed by 13 April 2012 and the enforcement of the zone will commence 16 April 2012.
