Budget proposals for 2012/13
We have published budget proposals for 2012/13 to help tackle childhood obesity, support businesses and low paid workers and give residents more power over local spending decisions.
Subject to approval at council assembly in February 2012, we aim to
- Freeze council tax for 2012/13 with a band D bill of £1,221.96
- Expand our free healthy school meals programme
- Introduce plans to ensure the London Living Wage of £8.30 per hour is paid to council contractors and agency staff
- Create a new cleaner, greener, safer revenue fund for community councils
- Establish a £1m community restoration fund to support the parts of Southwark affected by the serious disorder in August
- Use £1.5m from the government's new homes bonus grant to support council services
- Continue the £1.5m voluntary sector transition fund scheme to provide interim support to voluntary groups
Sharp falls in government funding, however, mean we will have to take some difficult decisions over the level of services we provide and savings will need to be made across all departments. We will continue to do all we can to support our most vulnerable residents as part of our fairer future programme, while providing excellent value for money for local residents and businesses.
