Southwark Council's budget
Southwark Council's budget 2011/12
Southwark Council's budget takes into account the cost of delivering services, set against the amount we get from the government, income we receive from other sources such as charges and levies, and how much we raise from council taxpayers. In addition, our schools are funded by a specific grant per pupil.
We have had almost £34m cuts to our income from central government, and there will be further reductions to our income from government in the following financial years. But we know times are difficult for you so we have frozen council tax for a third year.
Despite this challenging financial situation, we are committed to protecting services for the most vulnerable people in Southwark, and preserving as many other frontline services as possible. In the past year we have made up to £11m in efficiency savings and improved use of resources, and we will continue to identify ways to make further savings in the year ahead. But inevitably, due to the scale of the savings required, services will be affected.
