Need a trader you can trust? Ask trading standards
Our builders' award register has a whole range of home maintenance professionals who have been vetted by us.
The scheme was introduced in June 2003 to help tackle the problems of corrupt builders and rogue traders, many of whom 'cold call' or deliver leaflets looking for work.
The scheme has been gradually extended to include professionals across a wide range of home and garden maintenance services.

Note that members of our scheme have been recommended to us by local residents and have undergone a strict vetting procedure by trading standards. However, we are unable to recommend any particular trader and any decision to appoint one rests solely with the customer.
Please also note that the inclusion of a trader on this register is only an indication that they have made a commitment to meet certain minimum standards, which have been set out in our code of practice.
Inclusion on the register does not mean the council guarantees or accepts responsibility for work undertaken by a trader, or for agreements that a customer makes with a trader.
Feedback
We rely on customers to give us feedback on our members.
This can be done by completing a form that our members leave with their customers or by completing an online questionaire. It takes very little time and really does help us to monitor our members. All you need is your builders unique reference number which should have been supplied to you.
