Beko and LEC fridge freezers recalled due to potential fire hazard
Following the issuing of a safety notice by Beko the London Fire Brigade and Trading Standards have advised about the product recall of some models of Beko and also LEC frost free fridge freezers.
It is understood that a Beko fridge-freezer could have been the source of a fire in June 2011 at Lupin Point in Southwark. Therefore, if you have a Beko or LEC fridge freezer, it is very important that you take the time to check the serial number against the list below.
If you do have one of the fridge freezer models affected you must get in touch with Beko or LEC directly so that they can visit and carry out an adaptation to fix the defect.
Advice from Trading Standards on Beko and LEC frost free fridge freezers
In a very small number of incidents, involving certain models of Beko and LEC branded frost free fridge freezers, it may be possible for the defrost timer (located at the back of the fridge) to fail, overheat and cause a potential fire hazard. The models affected are listed below. As responsible manufacturers, they are seeking to establish contact owners of these products to carry out a free 30 minute in-home modification to remove any potential risk with this component.
How do I check if my Beko product is affected?
The Beko frost free fridge freezer models affected were manufactured between January 2000 and October 2006, but may have been supplied well after this.
Firstly check the serial number which can be found on a label inside the fridge. If that begins with either 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 or 06 then you then need to check if the model number is one of those affected from this list.
