What help is available from supporting people?
The Supporting people programme can provide a range of housing related support services to help vulnerable people maintain and improve their ability to live independently at home and within the community.
Supporting people funds services that provide a range of housing related support, including:

Sheltered housing for older people

Supported living schemes, where support is permanently linked to a property

Hostels where residents usually stay there on a temporary basis

Women's refuges
-
Lifelines, an alarm system that lets you call for help

Outreach services, which support people to retain their own home in the community
Supporting people funded services cannot support:

Medical or nursing treatment?

Personal care task, such as feeding, bathing?and dressing?

Assistance with using the toilet?
-
Professional treatment or counselling?

Intensive behaviour management
Who can get help?
Supporting people services can be provided in your own home.
You will receive an assessment of your support needs and a support plan will be agreed with you. This plan will clearly show what the service includes and how it will be provided.
Supporting People funds services for a diverse range of people with different needs, including:

Older people with support needs and frail elderly people

People with mental health problems

People with learning disabilities
-
People with a physical or sensory disability

Single homeless people with support needs

Offenders or people at risk of offending

Young people at risk and care leavers
-
Women at risk of domestic violence

People living with HIV

Homeless families with support need
Supporting people subsidy
Payment for support is not required. All Supporting People services are now free. Southwark has agreed not to apply the Supporting People Charging Policy. Therefore, until further notice, all services are now contracted on a block gross basis.
Individual service users in longer term services will no longer be required to submit subsidy claim forms nor should providers be charging service users for housing related support services provided under Southwark SP contracts.
How to apply for help
Referrals to supporting people services can be made by social workers, GPs, voluntary organisations and housing officers.
