The index of multiple deprivation
The index of multiple deprivation is a measure of deprivation for small areas in England. The index uses a combination of social and economic indicators to form an overall score for each area. These indicators are
- income deprivation
- employment deprivation
- health deprivation and disability
- education, skills and training deprivation
- barriers to housing and services
- crime
- living environment deprivation
There are also supplementary domains covering income deprivation affecting children and older people. The latest index of multiple deprivation was released in 2007, an update from 2004. A report mapping deprivation in Southwark is available for download.
Individual reports for each community council for Southwark have also been produced and can be found on the Southwark Alliance website.

Department of Work and Pensions tabulation tool
The Department of Work and Pensions Tabulation Tool allows you to download National Statistics to your requirements. The statistics are sourced from the newly published Work and Pensions Longitudinal Study (WPLS). These data are based on 100 percent of claimants and cover information such as age and gender of claimant, duration of their spell on benefit and geographical locations of claimants.
