Disabled parking
Removal of a disabled bay from the highway
Origin disabled bays are installed outside resident's homes when an application is made and certain criteria are met.
When applying for a bay, applicants are asked to let the council know if their circumstances change and they no longer require the bay. The council will then take steps to remove the bay.
Unfortunately this doesn't always happen and we appreciate that a redundant bay in a street may be frustrating for others who want to park there.
If you think that a disabled bay is no longer in use you should let us know and we will investigate.
We will write to the original applicant and/or place a notice near the bay to check that it's not being used. If it's confirmed that the bay is no longer required (or we don't get a response) we will then carry out our legal process to revoke the bay and remove the signs and lines. The whole process can take upto six months to complete.
Please remember that we have to be absolutely sure that the bay isn't in use before we remove it. Even if you think it's not being used you must not park in the bay until all the signs and lines have been removed, otherwise you are liable to parking enforcement or a fine.
