Southwark libraries are committed to services that support your learning. Whether you're taking up a new hobby, finding out about computers or gaining formal qualifications we provide a range of activities and books to help you achieve your ambitions. Our libraries are accessible community venues that are open to everyone.

What can I learn?

Courses include:

  • Using a computer for the first time
  • Internet, email and basic MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Over 50s computer skills  
  • Job hunting online 
  • Preparing for your Citizenship Test
  • Preparing for your Driving Theory Test
  • Get started in tracing your family history  
  • Getting started with eBay 

UK online centre courses

Your local library is part of the national UK online network which has been set up to help you get online. UK Online Centres give everyone in Southwark access to the internet near to where they live. A computer taster session at your local library is an ideal place to start!

As a learner using our libraries you can expect

  • Free tuition from trained library staff delivered in small groups in an informal environment and at a pace that suits you
  • Free impartial advice about courses   
  • Free membership allowing you to borrow books and other materials to support your learning 24 hours a day  
  • Free help with your children's homework
  • Space to study in friendly, relaxed surroundings  
  • Free computers hire, scanners, printers, photocopiers and faxes
  • Access to a wide range of learning provided by our partners such as Southwark Adult Learning, local PCT, Blackfriars, Money Advice Service 
  • Opportunities to take part in major national, local and regional learning events such Adult learners week and Family learning festival.
