Join the library

It's completely free to join any of our 12 public libraries. Anyone can join - you don't even have to live in Southwark!

Simply complete the online library membership application.  Your library membership card will be posted to your home address within seven days.

OR

Download an application form or pick one up from your local library. You will need to show a single form of identity (ID) with your current address. Examples of acceptable forms of identity include rent book, driver's licence, utility bill, BT bill and bank statement.

If you are under 18, a parent or carer will need to sign the form as your guarantor. We now also accept library cards from any public library service in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as proof of address.

If you are registered disabled, please let us know at the point of joining as you are entitled to a range of concessions.

Your membership card can be used in all of Southwark's libraries so there's no need to join each one separately. Once you've joined you'll be able to borrow up to 15 items at a time. Additionally, your Southwark library card now enables you to borrow items from any public library in England, Wales and Northern Ireland without the need to provide additional proof of address.
