Hate crime and harassment

Sexual harassment

Sexual harassment is any unwelcome behaviour that is linked to your gender or sexual orientation. The European Union (EU) definition of sexual harassment is "unwanted conduct of a sexual nature or other conduct based on sex affecting the dignity of men and women at work". Your right is to be safe from sexual harassment in the workplace.

If you think that you are being sexually harassed, you should wherever possible:

  • Tell the harasser that their behaviour is unwelcome and that you want it to stop
  • Record the details e.g time, date, description of what happened, witnesses
  • Report the harasser to your employer or trade union official
  • Seek advice from a solicitor
