Serious violence
Tackling serious violence
The Safer Southwark Partnership are working hard to tackle serious violence in Southwark, below are some examples of the work that is currently taking place.
Home visits
The home visit programme is a multi agency approach that includes Southwark Youth Service, Antisocial Behaviour Unit (SASBU) and community safety managers. The programme was set up to tackle gang and weapon violence in the borough and to offer support to those individuals and families who are caught up in serious violence.
Southwark Emergency Rehousing Victims of Violence Enterprise(SERVE)
SERVE provides safe accommodation, mentoring and advocacy support for people who at serious risk of violence associated with gang or weapon related crime. SERVE is potentially a life saving scheme and allows individuals to move to a safe property until long term housing can be arranged.
Gang Injunction
Southwark obtained the first gang injunction against a gang leader who was a violent offender with a strong influence on the streets. This was the first injunction in the country, which has been a considerable success. The young person has not come to notice since the order was imposed and the mentoring support offered is now working well.
