National non-domestic rates
National non domestic rates
Business rates are collected by the council and paid into a central government pool. They are then redistributed on a percentage basis to each authority. They are collected from non domestic rate payers and contribute to the cost of local services.
There will be one business rates bill for each non-domestic property whether it is owned, rented or empty.
The amount charged is based on
- The rateable value of the property that is set by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA)
- A multiplier (rate in the pound) which is set by the government
Business rates are also referred to as National Non Domestic Rates (NNDR).
