Project support
Starting a creative project in Southwark?
Whether you are starting up your own gallery, theatre, performing arts venue, creative project, or hosting and event, here are some tips to help you along the way:
Know your area
There are eight community council areas within the borough, Bermondsey, Borough and Bankside, Camberwell, Dulwich, Nunhead and Peckham Rye, Peckham, Rotherhithe and Walworth. Know the area that you would like to work in, from the area officers, to local councillors and services. This will help with developing and promoting your venue, project or event.
Find premises
Looking for premises? Need something quirky? See our property pages for available commercial premises to let across the borough. Or visit the Network Rail site for industrial sites and railway arches. Other commercial agents in the area to consider are Kalmars, Cluttons, and Field and Sons.
But if you need a conventional place to rehearse dance, music and theatre, or exhibit work, then follow the links for available spaces.
Plan, plan, plan
Here is a comprehensive checklist of things to consider when staging any event, so if you are thinking of planning an event, large or small, this information is for you.
Want to work with young people?
If you plan to work with young people, make sure you contact the right people. There are a number of youth clubs engaged with young people that you can approach. Or you may want to collaborate with an existing project. See the list below for youth focused, creative projects:
- Southwark Music Service
- Visual and performing arts project (VAPA)
- Southside Media Project
- Southwark Theatres' Education Partnership (STEP)
Network
Join the right groups to help your work flourish, from workshops to seminars; there is an array of networking opportunities within the borough to help equip you with the right resources and valuable contacts.

You're set up, but no one knows your there. Publicise your veue launched, private views, and events for free on our What's on page or post it on our Facebook page. Reach Southwark residents by joining local community forums, or joining the discussion at community council meetings.
