Open Weekend, 23 to 25 July 2010, in an annual UK-wide celebration of events in the run up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Hundred of events and activities will take place in the UK over Open Weekend, from theatre performances, exhibitions, to environmental, and sport events, plus much more.

Events in Southwark

Over the Open Weekend why not try something new. There will be a mix of events and activities. Below are some of the cultural activities happening within the borough.

Over the weekend

London Glassblowing: Glassblowing demonstration
Free, 9.30am to 5.30pm
Glassblowing demonstrations are open to all age groups. Come and see the glassmakers at work.

National Theatre: Watch this space festival - Mimbre week
FREE, Fri 1pm to 9.30pm, Sat 1pm to 11pm, Sun 12.30pm to 3pm
As part of the National Theatre's Watch This Space Festival, join marvellous Mimbre for a weekend of acrobatic performances and workshops in Theatre Square outside the National on London's South Bank.

Peckham Space: group exhibition
FREE, Friday 11am to 5pm, Saturday 11am to 4pm
Peckham Space launches with a group exhibition including a recent work by Clegg and Guttmann and specially-commissioned works by FREEE, Ana Laura López de la Torre, Rachael House and Southwark TV alongside a programme of free events.

South London Gallery: Nothing is forever

Nothing is Forever
celebrates the completion of the SLG's £2 million building project, bringing together wall paintings, drawings and text pieces by 20 British and international artists

Cuming Museum: Wallpaper exhibition
FREE, 10am to 5pm
An exhibition of arts and crafts wallpapers together with contemporary examples by David Mabb and students from the London College of Communications.
 

Southwark Playhouse: Schiller's Intrigue/Love
£8 to 13, 7.30pm
A potent mix of tragedy and comedy with echoes of both Romeo & Juliet and Tartuffe, Schiller's early masterpiece is unleashed in this fresh and urgent new translation specially commissioned by the faction theatre co. to commemorate the 250th anniversary year of Schiller's birth.

Bold Tendencies: Sculpture Project 4
Free, 11am to 10pm
Bold Tendencies: Sculpture Project returns for another great summer and some tasty food at the top of Peckham's multi storey car park.

Cuming Museum: Wallpaper exhibition
Free, 10am to 5pm
An exhibition of arts and crafts wallpapers together with contemporary examples by David Mabb and students from the London College of Communications.

Cuming Museum: Wonderful wallpaper, family art day
FREE, 1pm to 4pm
Look at the historic wallpapers in the museum and have a go at making your own. Learn some printing techniques and design your own wallpaper.

Fashion and Textile Museum: Happening Hankies!
£3.50 to £6.50, 2pm to 4pm
The FTM's new exhibition, Horrockses Fashions is showcasing some beautiful dresses from the 40s and 50s with wonderful prints from some of the best designers of the time.

Cafe Gallery Projects: Open exhibition
FREE, 12pm to 6pm
Unselected exhibition open to all with prizes totalling £1,000.

Dulwich Picture Gallery: Artplay
Creative art workshops for families and young people. Come and join in and make everything and anything from Bunting to Bloc printing and all things in between!

Fashion and Textile Museum: Happening Hankies!
£3.50 to £6.50, 2pm to 4pm

South London Gallery: The Sunday spot
Free, 2pm to 4pm
Free activities for families based around the SLG's current exhibition: Nothing is Forever. These events are organised by parents and all are welcome. Ideal for children aged 3 to 12 years.
