Stray dogs
Collection
Our service is for stray dogs only. A dog becomes a stray when it does not have a person in charge of it and it is wandering at large in a public place or a non public place where it is not permitted to be.
If you find a stray dog you should return it to the owner by looking at the dog's tag identification (if it is wearing one) or call the council on 0800 952 4444 to arrange collection. Southwark's stray dog collection service operates Monday to Friday, between 8am to 5pm, and this includes Bank Holidays.
You could also report it to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home's Lost Dog and Cat line on 0901 4778477 (calls cost 60p per minute from a BT landline, other networks may vary). The service operates within the M25 and uses a database to match missing pets with owners. This phone line is open between 8am to 8pm. Visit Battersea Dogs and Cats Home for further information.
For other animals please contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
Dangerous Dogs are dealt with by the police under Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.
If it is an emergency then please contact the police directly on 999.
Please visit the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) for more information about dangerous dogs.
