Gardening to get active

There are a number of projects running in Southwark that give you the opportunity to grow your own fruit and vegetables. They are also a great way to get outside and get some exercise.

Dulwich vegetable garden

DIG (Dulwich informal growers)

  • Gardening club for the over 60s.
  • Every other Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm.
  • Free of charge. 
  • Gardening is in raised beds for those finding it harder to garden and there are supportive staff and refreshments.
  • Meet at the Centre for Wildlife Gardening, 28 Marsden Road, SE15.

Heart Garden

  • The Heart Garden is an ongoing project aimed at adults with ongoing health problems including recovery from illness or a hospital stay.
  • Fridays 10.30am to 1.30pm.
  • Chumleigh Gardens, Burgess Park.

Master Gardeners

  • An organisation which trains volunteer master gardeners to help others in their community.
  • Receive training and support before helping others to begin growing their own food.
  • Or apply for 12 months free food growing advice and become one of the households supported by a master gardener and learn to grow your own.
